Community Involvement

Bill Jackson has practiced law for more than 40 years. Educated as a metallurgical and mechanical engineer, he focuses on patents, antitrust, trademarks, trade secrets, unfair competition, false advertising and First Amendment issues. Bill is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney, one of 17 currently with the firm.
Recent Assignments
- Acted as an expert witness on patent law and Patent Office practice issues concerning inequitable conduct of patent applicants in several patent lawsuits
- Represented a manufacturer in a patent infringement preliminary injunction hearing
- Acted as co-counsel in a suit in U.S. District Court to appeal a ruling of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Board of Appeals
Before Stites & Harrison
In 1963-65, Mr. Jackson acted as a U.S. Patent Examiner in the sound recording and photographic fields. He subsequently was a patent agent and attorney for Eastman Kodak's Patent Department, Rochester, New York. He returned to Washington D.C. to act as a Patent Law Clerk in the U.S. Court of Claims, Trial Division, during 1969-70. In 1971 to 1976, he was a Trial Lawyer and special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, Patent Section. From 1983 to January 2004, Mr. Jackson was with Larson & Taylor.

Mr. Jackson's activities have included Moot Court Judge for Intellectual Property Competition, George Washington University Law School; Piedmont Environmental Council, Warrenton, Va.; Land Conservancy of Adams County, Gettysburg, Pa.; and, "The Journey Through Hallowed Ground," Waterford, Va.
Besides Stites & Harbison
His long term interest in the Civil War and historic preservation issues has led him to restore a historic farm house near Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and to preserve his family farm located near the Gettysburg Civil War battlefield.
