Sasha Wagers Renfro is a member of the Torts & Insurance Practice Service Group. she is also a member of the firm's class action defense and appellate practice teams. Her practice focuses on civil litigation and pharmaceutical and medical device defense.

Recent Assignments

  • Member of the trial team currently involved in defending a major chemical manufacturer in a toxic emission case concerning more than 200 plaintiffs in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.  To date, two cases involving 14 plaintiffs have been tried to verdict.
  • Part of Stites & Harbison's team that defended a large national insurance company with claims involving 33 different offices in 23 states. Ms. Renfro was successful in convincing the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky that the burden of proof should not be shifted to the defendant insurance company under plaintiff's argument regarding retrospectively rated premiums. The court's decision on the highly complex burden-shifting issue was instrumental to the successful settlement of the case.
  • In the products liability and ultrahazardous materials case of Larry Ellison, et al. v. Ensign-Bickford Co., et al., Ms. Wagers obtained summary judgment for the Ensign Bickford Company and successfully defended that judgment in the Kentucky Court of Appeals. The Supreme Court of Kentucky denied plaintiff's request for discretionary review.

Before Stites & Harbison

Prior to law school, Sasha served as a Pretrial Officer for Fayette County Pretrial Services, Lexington, Ky., from 1999 to 2000. She was also the Chief Researcher for the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Court's study on domestic violence, published by the National Institute of Justice and presented in Washington, D.C.

More Than Stites & Harbison

Ms. Renfro is active in a variety of community organizations. She is a member of the Board of Directors and is the Financial Development Chair for the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross (2007-present) and was a captain for the Chapter's 2008, 2009 and 2010 Heroes Campaign. She received the Red Cross's 2007 annual award for the first year volunteer having made the most significant, positive impact on the Bluegrass Chapter. She serves as a guest lecturer for the Equine Law course at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.
